Ranveer and Anjali’s reaction to the kiss
Anjali told Siddharth Kannan, “You should have been on the set, otherwise aapko samajh mein hi nahi ayega (You cannot understand what it was like). Me and Ranveer were like ‘Is this really happening’? We were so excited about it and there was no haua (hullaballoo) about it…”
Anjali recalled what it was like being a part of the scene along with veteran actors such as Dharmendra, Shabana Azmi and Jaya Bachchan. She said, “We could see Shabana ji just walk in and woh hawa chalu ho jati hai (The wind started blowing), and she’s singing… see this (gooseflesh), me and Ranveer Singh were like ‘Yeh kya ho raha hai (What is happening)? Oh my God we are in front of legends and they are performing, oh my God’. I was like ‘Tere toh banta hai, main kaha se agayi (He could be there, but how did I get there)!’ I was like his being there is understandable, but imagine me… what was I feeling… Like Jaya ji is here, Dharmendra ji is here and Shabana ji is here, like what that h*** is happening! How did I reach here? It was just surreal.”
Dharmendra on kissing scene with Shabana
Shabana Azmi and Dharmendra play lost lovers in Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani, who reunite after years as their grandchildren – Alia Bhatt’s Rani Chatterjee and Ranveer Singh’s Rocky Randhawa – fall in love. Jaya Bachchan is seen as Dharmendra’s wife, and they play Rocky’s grandparents. Actors Tota Roy Chowdhury and Churni Ganguly as well as Shabana play Alia’s family.
Dharmendra had opened up about his kiss with Shabana Azmi recently, and said that there was no awkwardness during the shoot. Dharmendra told News18 in a recent interview, “When Karan (Karan Johar) narrated the scene to us, I did not get excited (laughs). We understood it and I realised that it was something that the film required and wasn’t forcefully put in and I said I will do it. Also, I believe there is no age for romance. Age is just a number and two people irrespective of age will show their love for each other by kissing. Shabana and I both did not feel any kind of awkwardness while doing it as it was very aesthetically shot.”
