Actor Wamiqa Gabbi, who earned rave reviews and critical acclaim for her performance in the web show Jubilee, is all charged up for she has bagged her first Hindi commercial project. The actor, who has primarily done Punjabi films, will be seen in director Atlee’s highly-anticipated next Hindi production, after the Shah Rukhh Khan-starrer Jawan.
“I’m thrilled and grateful to be a part of this film. Atlee is someone known for his crazy commercial films that he makes with so much passion. And this one is backed by Murab (Khetani) bhai, who has that eye for typical masala potboilers. All this makes it such a special project, and I’m really excited about this collaboration,” says Gabbi, confessing that she had been waiting for long to do a “full-on commercial Hindi project and this is just it”.
At the moment, the untitled film directed by Tamil director Kalees, which has been generating buzz across social media platforms, is referred to as VD18 and is slated to release next year. Not allowed to divulge much about her character, the 29-year-old says what also makes this film more special are her co-actors. “The opportunity to work alongside (actors) Varun Dhawan and Keerthy Suresh and sharing screen space with them is definitely something I’m looking forward to, and that makes this project even more special,” she continues, “Varun seems like a ball of energy and that’s my vibe, too. He’s doing a range of films where he has done a variety of characters, so I’m hoping we get to learn something from each other as artistes.”
While Gabbi had a small role in Kabir Khan’s sports film ‘83 (2019) and has also shot for Vishal Bhardwaj’s Khufiya, she hopes with Atlee’s film, she would be seen in a different light. “As an actor, with each new project, you find a new voice, a new audience, and this film will have a huge impact when it comes to reaching the masses and that’s something I’m sure of once the film is ready and comes out,” ends the actor, who has also done web projects such as Grahan and Mai.
